Morris Stores: 9-17 New Street, Metuchen, NJ
NEAR TRAIN STATION
413-419 Main Street/1-23 New Street were constructed as several buildings from the early part of the twentieth century to 1972. The buildings became a single building under the ownership of Morris Zuts who operated the Morris Stores department store with his brothers from 1928 until 1994. Morris Stores was the anchor for Main Street, where generations bought their clothing.
Nassau Development II, L.P., an affiliate of U.S. Real Estate Acquisitions, L.L.C., purchased the building in 1995, gutted it and created the 6 apartments and the stores that exist today.
The apartments are each unique, including several which are multistory with cathedral ceilings and oversize windows. All have central air conditioning and washer/dryer in the unit.
The facade facing New Street has the "Together" mural by Steve Powers which was installed by the Metuchen Downtown Alliance Public Art Team.
The building is just steps from the Metuchen train station with easy access North to New York City and Newark, and South to Princeton and Trenton. There is also easy access to the Garden State Parkway, NJ Turnpike, Route 287 and Route 1. The Jersey Shore is a short drive away.
Morris Stores is in the heart of Downtown Metuchen with stores, restaurants, pubs, hair salons, dry cleaners, fitness studios and nail salons within steps of the front door.
